When Becky Rector wanted to move up in her company, she knew adding a credential would be her ticket to a promotion. That is when she decided to enroll in the accounting program at Ivy Tech Community College. While eager and anticipating that promotion, the job did not work out. But Becky didn’t let this stop her progress.
Becky found a new opportunity at Fidelity National as a processor and decided to stay in school and finish her degree.
“It has been stressful at times, there is not a lot of time for a social life,” Becky said jokingly. “Ivy Tech has helped me make it work by offering online and evening classes.”
Having the flexibility and ability to control her schedule helped her commute from work and her home in Greenwood to the Indianapolis and Lawrence campuses.
“Ivy Tech is a great school to attend to get your core college classes at an affordable price,” she said. “They offer classes at all times, so it’s easy to get in all the classes you need.”
After she graduates in December 2019, Becky hopes to earn a promotion from her company and have a job that utilizes all the new skills she has acquired.
Becky is glad she never gave up and stuck with her plan, even when that plan changed. She looks forward to her next chapter.
“If I can do it, you can do it too!”
