English Department Hosts Succesful #IvyWrites Activity Fair and Workshop

On February 20-21, the English department collaborated to launch the #IvyWrites Activity Fair and the inaugural Carol Schuck #IvyWrites Workshop. IvyLife and the School of Arts Sciences and Education Speaker Series supported the endeavor. 

The Thursday Activity Fair filled the IFC Commons with clusters of tables and students experimenting with quick, fun writing activities. Students commented they didn’t realize that writing could be fun and many stayed for hours, talking one-on-one, and making meaningful connections with our English faculty and the LRC librarians and tutors.

On Friday, the workshop attracted 69 participants (more than twice the goal!).

Acclaimed writer and teacher Barbara Shoup gave a keynote and faculty shared their best writing workshops. Students chose from sessions on poetry, literature, prose, and fiction; one session was so big they had to seek another classroom!  We made some really intense and meaningful connections with our students. Look for this to be an annual event!
