On February 13, World Civilization II students examined historic “incunabula” leaves, one from a 1473 book printed by Peter Schoeffer (Gutenberg’s apprentice), and one from the Liber Chronicarum (the Nuremberg Chronicle) of 1493.
Collected by Professor Jack Cooney, he presented them as part of the innovative guest speaker program pioneered by Professor Mike Sparks.
Jack spoke about the 75th anniversary of the “Destruction of Dresden,” linking it to Kurt Vonnegut’s famous Bible and celebrated novel Slaughterhouse Five. Jack also told of his May 2012 visit to Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Ger-many, where Martin Luther once translated the Bible into German.
