Legal Studies and Paralegal Studies Program Chair, Lara O’Dell, has been at Ivy Tech Community College since 2009, but on Monday, March 23, she experienced something completely new: Teaching a class 100% online via Zoom.
“As we were getting off, I spoke to each of the students individually, asking if they had any questions or needed help with anything,” Lara said.
One of the students in her class, a grandfather, shared he would be the first in his family to graduate from college.
“He told me that he feels that he must complete his college degree in order to show the path to his grandchildren,” she explained.
The class went on well, and at the end, her student shared how nervous he was at first, but that the online class was really easy and enjoyed it.
“It made my heart soar!” Lara said.
While everyone is in this odd circumstance together, Lara knew the new learning environment would impact each student differently.
“This student exemplifies the idea that we can overcome obstacles and do anything we set our minds to.”
