Preparing for the future by learning new ways to teach in the present

Like thousands of other educators across the nation, Joycell Ingram, an adjunct professor for the Health Care department at Ivy Tech Community College Avon, is making the sudden and unprecedented transition to virtual learning.

“I am learning to teach remotely at jet speed,” Ingram said. “This is and has been an eye-opening experience.”

Remote teaching has its own unique series of challenges and learning curves, of which educators everywhere are heroically overcoming.

“In the future, I believe all adjunct professors should be required to learn to teach remotely with in the year they start to work,” Ingram said. “This way, we won’t be so frightened in an emergency situation, and still expected to learn something brand new at a fast pace.”

Yet despite the fast pace of the unparalleled transition, Ivy Tech educators were able to switch the entire semester to a digital platform in the blink of an eye. This dedication to delivering quality, timely education despite all obstacles distinguishes our college as exceptional.

Much gratitude and admiration to every teacher who, just like Joycell, has remodeled the way they teach at accelerated speeds in order to equip students with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed in the future, no matter what that future looks like.
