Ivy Tech Community College Supply Chain Program Teams Up with Six Sigma Global Institute to Benefit 31 Students in receiving Scholarships

In recent month, as COVID-19 has affected many Hoosiers and the Ivy Tech Community, the Supply Chain and Logistics industry has seen an increased need for more employees with advanced Supply Chain Training and experience.

To help meet this need the Supply Chain Program at the Indianapolis/Lawrence Ivy Tech Community College Campus has worked to stream-line the re-writing of a current course – LOGM 201- Logistics Quality and Lean Management.

Before the re-write, students of this course could earn an entry level While Belt in Six Sigma Lean Logistics Management.  To increase the skillset and help students become more marketable and capable of meeting the needs of the Supply Chain industry, the Indianapolis Supply Chain Program has developed a new Beta Version of the course that includes the opportunity for students to earn a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification in Supply Chain Management.  This is a certification is greatly sought after by industry experts and is regarded as a major accomplishment.

The Six Sigma Global Institute is an industry-recognized leader in offering professional Lean Six Sigma training.  Thanks to the generosity of Barry Shore and Zach Shore, leaders and founders of Six Sigma Global Institute, the Ivy Tech Supply Team has partnered with the institution to bring the Yellow Belt certification through a Beta Class. The class will be offered starting in the second eight week period of the Fall 2020 semester.

The ability to accomplish this goal was made possible because SSGI offered a $3,069 scholarship to all 31 students in the Beta Course to cover the cost and fees of the Yellow Belt Certification.  This will streamline the process of getting the updated course online, and will help 31 Ivy Tech students to have an opportunity to achieve a certification much sought after by the Indiana Supply Chain Community.

“This will make these students better prepared for numerous needed skills in the Supply Chain Community and make them more marketable for future employment.”  Christopher Ridener, Program Chair and Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management and Logistics at Ivy Tech, said.

SSGI has industry recognition and global reach that assures their certification is recognized by organizations around the world. SSGI has partnered with the Baldrige Foundation to offer professional development certifications.
