Dr. David Oehler will begin this new role effective January 18, 2022
Ivy Tech Indianapolis has named Dr. David Oehler as its next Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, effective January 18, 2022. Oehler comes to Ivy Tech Indianapolis from Metropolitan Community College (MCC) in Kansas City, Mo., where he currently serves as vice president of instruction and student services for its Longview campus.
Before joining the Longview location, Oehler served as Dean of Instruction at MCC’s Maple Wood campus, serving as the campus chief academic officer. He has also had a distinguished career at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo., where he rose from an instructor to academic department chair in the Department of Communication, Theatre and Languages, and later in Fine and Performing Arts.
He earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education from Iowa State University, a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech from Iowa State University.
Oehler brings to Ivy Tech Indianapolis extensive experience overseeing professional schools. Under his leadership at MCC, he guided the development of a Center for Teaching and Learning, led campus strategic planning alignment and tracking, developed a culture of transparency and faculty and staff support, and led Career and Technical Education programs in Business, Computer Science, Veterinary Technology, and Automotive Technology.
“In Oehler, the campus community has found an active partner who is knowledgeable and cares about the needs of faculty, staff and students and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Lorenzo Esters, chancellor of Ivy Tech Indianapolis. “He will provide strong leadership and supervision for our seven academic schools and other educational areas, including the Learning Resource Center, instructional technology and library services.”
He has authored or co-authored several publications on decision making and quality and performance excellence in higher education and has substantial experience in assessment, information and analysis. Oehler also has significant experience engaging with Higher Learning Commission regional accreditation and strategic planning activities and has been involved with specialized program accreditation, including music, veterinary technology and automotive technology.
