Ivy Tech graduate becomes recipient of Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity’s 10th annual build at the Indiana State Fair

Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity completed their 10th annual build at the Indiana State Fair this summer, and one of this year’s recipients was Ivy Tech’s own JaTio Skinner and her family. JaTio graduated with her associate degree from Ivy Tech this summer and began at IUPUI this fall.

As a first-time homeowner with Habitat for Humanity, JaTio participated in homeowner education courses, financial education, and contributed 300 hours of “sweat equity” and hands-on experience in developing her property as well as other Habitat homes.

JaTio and her son JayCeon are very excited to have a home to call their own, after relocating to Indianapolis from Los Angeles in 2016. Becoming a homeowner will provide the stability needed to continue bettering her education and career and support her family. And although her home was built on the Fairgrounds, it will be moved to its permanent location in time for her family to celebrate Thanksgiving.
