More than 100 were in attendance for Ivy Tech Indianapolis’ inaugural Día Familiar (Family Day) on Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free community event for Hispanic families enabled them to connect with Ivy Tech and local community resources.
The event kicked off with a keynote from Consul Luis Franco of the Mexican Consulate, followed by a series of workshops in spanish regarding scholarships, legal and financial services, career exploration, community resources and more.
The event also featured a student panel, community fair and the opportunity to speak with Ivy Tech representatives.
“I am so excited to be a part of Ivy Tech and their outreach to the Latino community through Día Familiar,” said Andrew Peñalva, Ivy Tech’s Latino outreach coordinator. “The chance to have access to legal, financial, scholarship and health services for free in one place is an incredible opportunity. We hope everyone will join us and take advantage of this incredible event!”
The Indiana Latino Institute, Indiana Latino Expo, IPS, Excel Center, Marion County Public Health Department, Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and Indiana Commission for Higher Education are some of the many community partners participating in Día Familiar.
