Ivy Tech Community College Central Indiana and Sysco Indianapolis have successful first year of partnership

In July 2018, Ivy Tech Community College Central Indiana and Sysco Indianapolis launched a comprehensive partnership, which greatly benefits the Ivy Tech culinary program and allows Sysco to showcase the way they help elevate the hospitality industry in Central Indiana. Sysco Indianapolis offers a dynamic and enjoyable workplace while simultaneously supporting the community.

Key elements of this partnership include:

  • Scholarship support for students
  • Paid Sysco internships available in the fall and spring semesters
  • Culinary program enhancements
  • Designated Sysco Foods lab at Ivy Tech Indianapolis
  • Job shadowing opportunities
  • Classroom engagement
  • Annual Sysco Showcase each spring at Ivy Tech

The designated Sysco Foods lab in Ivy Tech Indianapolis’ Culinary and Conference Center, also called the Basic Foods lab, is where culinary students learn the basics and fundamental skills early on in their culinary education. There are a variety of beneficial workspaces in the lab, as well as an array of valuable culinary equipment. In this lab, students take their first steps into the professional cooking environment as they learn everything from knife skills to appropriate kitchen conduct.

March 2019 was the first time Sysco Indianapolis held its Spring Food Show in the same building as the Sysco Foods lab, where more than 700 of their customers and 100 vendors shared information and resources to help restaurants develop plans. The event was featured in this video.

Ivy Tech Community College is proud to showcase this amazing partnership, and thankful that our students are able to work so closely with this great local company!
