On Tuesday, April 21, Ivy Tech Community College Central Indiana hosted a virtual career fair in which approximately 50 registered organizations across various professional fields were represented. The fair boasted a successful turnout and participation rate with 207 students attending virtually across the service area.
Some organizations that were present at the event include Indiana University Health, FORUM Credit Union, Fresenius Medical Care, Wildwood Healthcare Center and Ascension St. Vincent.
Of the students who attended the fair, 49.2% of attendees were health sciences students scoping out career opportunities in nursing and healthcare fields. In times such as these where the nation is faced with an overwhelming pandemic, one can take comfort in knowing that a huge influx of Ivy Tech healthcare graduates are eager to burst into the nursing and healthcare industry.
The remaining career fair attendees were students from diverse fields including social and public services, business, advanced manufacturing and IT. Well over half of the students in attendance uploaded resumes so the prospective employers could see what each of them had to offer.
Employers at the fair utilized video options to conduct all interactions by providing chat schedules, resource files and external URLs, which helped make it a tremendous success
Some employers, such as FORUM Credit Union, were still conducting interviews well after the 2 p.m. stop time.
“We have six interviews scheduled for the next two days and hope to have more before this [career fair] ends. Thanks [Ivy Tech] for going outside the box and offering us the time to talk to your students virtually,” said the representative for FORUM Credit Union.
Another employer, Acute Dialysis, found 15 candidates they planned to extended interviews to. This was the case for many other students that left the event with interviews or job offers in hand.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to have an avenue to connect with talent during these extremely unprecedented times,” one of the employers said. “What I liked most about the virtual career fair was the access and availability to future nurses.”
For those looking for more information regarding career services, prospective and current students can rest assured that Ivy Tech will provide them support to prepare for their professional career.
