Advantage Shelby County celebrates 2020 and 2021 graduates

On Thursday, April 29, Ivy Tech Community College Shelbyville held the Advantage Shelby County graduation celebration at the Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Civic Center from 6 – 7:30 p.m., honoring more than 60 graduates from 2020 and 2021.

Speakers at this event included Ivy Tech Franklin Vice Chancellor Stephanie Amos, Board Member Stu Kaplan, Ivy Tech Central Indiana Chancellor Dr. Kathleen Lee, Ivy Tech President Dr. Sue Ellspermann, Ivy Tech Columbus Chancellor Dr. Steven Combs and Advantage Shelby County Scholarship Director Ami Carter.

Advantage Shelby County is a two-year college scholarship program in collaboration with the City of Shelbyville, Shelby County government and Ivy Tech, providing funding for all tuition costs not covered by state, federal or institutional aid.

This first-of-its-kind scholarship program in Indiana began in the Fall of 2016 and serves as the state’s only full-tuition promise scholarship. It aims to make higher education attainable for Shelby County high school graduates and prepares them to be ready for the workforce.

As part of the scholarship requirements, students agree to perform 10 hours of volunteer community service per semester within Shelby County. To date, Ivy Tech is proud to announce that Advantage Shelby County students have completed over 11,220 hours of service for the local community.
